So, this happened... Bird nerds feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this little guy might be a buzzard. A few days ago at uni they had two birds of prey on show to promote a charity campaign, although to be honest I was more interested in the eagles rather than the campaign itself, hehe. For those of you who don't know me, eagles are one of my favourite animals in the entire world, and when I saw this little guy I just feel in love and I had to hold him.
I'm not going to lie I was rather nerves, but only because there were large amounts of people surrounding me and staring at me and the bird. The experience itself was rather amazing, eagles are so beautiful and I feel so lucky to have been able to be that close to one of them. The bird was really smart and very well trained... For the bird to climb on to my hand I had to hold my arm out in front of it. Then the buzzard majestically hopped on to my wrist and stayed there, it looked at me for a few moments and I felt it's claws dig gently into my arm, it must have been trying to support itself. Then once the photo was taken I placed my arm behind the tree branch which indicated the buzzard to climb off my arm and back on to his previous display stand. I wonder how long it took for the bird to learn those simple indications "come here" and "get off", which is basically what it was. In all honesty it made me kind of sad to see the bird there on display. I mean at first I was like "oh my word, it's so beautiful I wanna hold it"... But then after some further thought I realised that the birds are kind of stuck and unable to fly freely which is what they enjoy doing... It made me wonder if the birds are always chained or let free once in a while?! Either way, it was an interesting, fun experience.
