Bucket list goal number #317 is to Submit a poem into a poem contest. I have always loved writing, ever since I was little I used to write my own stories, create poems, right inspirational speeches, anything that involves some form of developing sentences that are smooth and conjure up profound feeling and meaning, I'm into it. I remember writing a short story once for my mum when I was younger, I had created a story about a man who had gone off on an adventure and had somehow lost his way, and found himself in a mysterious inn, with seductive women and some really cruel men... I don't remember how the rest of the story goes but it was alright for a 12 year old, and my mum seemed to have enjoy`ed it. I have printed it out in a book format and staple it all together and everything. She loved it. As I got older I to get a little more into poetry. I used to write poems about my feelings, my current situations, arguments that I had, people I had crushes on, etc. etc. And when I went to university and I took creative writing for the purpose of becoming a writer, a fiction novelist, I found a course called The Art of The Poem and I became heavily curious.

I took the course and it was by far one of my favourite courses that I took at university. The reason why I'm sharing this information with you, is because when I was younger throughout the entirety of my childhood and teenaged years I dreamt of being an interior designer, and yet here I am several with a degree in Philosophy, English Literature & Creative Writing about to enter one of my very own poems into a competition for a chance to have it published. In other, shorter words - things change. I mean, I've always loved writing but I never saw myself as becoming an actual writer or ever publishing any of my work, but now the idea of being published excites me a million times more than the opportunity to win £5,000. Oh, yeah, that's also one of the prizes.

The contest I'm entering is a run by The Poetry Society in London, they have a cafe and everything. it's the The 2018 National Poetry Competition. Top 7 poems win prizes of between £5,000 to £200, but, the top 3 poets get to have their poems get featured within The Poetry Review which was founded in 1912. It's a well known magazine amongst Literates and Poets all across England, and I want to be in it. Why? you may ask. Well, I not only would love the opportunity to be featured in the UK's most well known poetry magazine but I'm also quite interested in seeing how well my poem would do. I want to see if I'm up there with the big guys. I want to see if I get above 10th place. And if not, then I keep learning, I keep writing and hopefully one day I'll make it into The Poetry Review. But for now, it's just about having the courage to enter my work and hopefully get it out there.
