I don't know if any of you remember the Pixar short of the old man with the oversized blazer and pointy nose. The short goes as follows; an old man blows some dead leaves off of a wooden outdoor table and sets a chessboard on top of it. He then places then pieces in their corresponding positions and sits down on the chair putting on his long-ass glasses right on the tip of his nose. He makes his first move. The camera pans out and you realise there is nobody else in the park. He then gets up, moves to the other side of the table and plays. The black pieces gain the lead and eat all the white pieces up to the very last wedge, the king. The man playing with the white pieces fakes a heart attack and falls off his chair. The one playing with the black pieces becomes confused and concerned and checks his pulse as if to say "but, were okay?!" As the man leans over to check on the other guy, the one on the ground sits up and discreetly flips the board around so that he now has the winning side. He sits back in his chair and reassures the other man that he is okay. He makes the final move and wins the game. The other is confused, yet again, as to what just happened attempts to calculate in his mind how this might have occurred, but then caves in and gives the other his prize. A pair of dentures.

This short is one of the very reasons as to why bucket list goal number #268 Play chess with an old person in the park, is on my list. When I was younger, even now, back in Portugal, you'll find a group of old men playing cards outside on a bench or on a picnic table. Maybe it's just the old soul in me, but it actually looks rather fun. Plus, I love the idea of beating someone with billions and billions of years worth experience in the art of chess. That's actually my favourite thing about older people, the fact that they are wiser, have more experience and great stories to share. It would be great added fun to sit with a senior, in a park, as we play chess and I listen to them tell their stories and embark their endless source of wisdom. That is why bucket list goal number #268 is on my bucket list.
